GRAVHOUNDS Runs Badly? Specs, Settings and Known Fixes

If GRAVHOUNDS runs badly, first compare your PC with the official specs: the minimum is a GTX 1660 or RX 590 with 8 GB RAM, and DirectX 12 is required. Then update Windows and GPU drivers, make sure you have the latest build with the demo's performance and crash fixes, and lower your settings.

Check the System Requirements

Many performance complaints come from machines near or below the minimum. The official Steam page lists both tiers. Both need a 64-bit CPU and OS, DirectX 12, a broadband connection and 10 GB of storage.

  • Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590.
  • Recommended: Windows 11 64-bit, Intel Core i5-10600KF or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5600X.

Fixes at a Glance

The fastest checks, in the order we'd try them.

  • Compare your PC with the minimum and recommended specs.
  • Install Windows updates and the latest GPU driver.
  • Update the game to the newest build.
  • Lower resolution and watch the performance stats overlay.
  • On Steam Deck, expect compatibility-layer results only.

Update Windows and Drivers

In one resolved Steam thread, an immediate crash turned out to be Windows locking drivers until a pending update was installed. After updating, the game worked. Other players recommend keeping NVIDIA drivers current through the NVIDIA app.

Install pending Windows updates and the latest GPU driver before deeper troubleshooting. Restart afterward. It is the simplest fix with a confirmed result.

Use the Latest Build

Dev Log #1 says the team continued optimizing across all platforms and hoped players would see meaningful performance gains in the demo. It also improved Gravity Bomb performance and toned down its chaos. Save reliability and crash fixes were added too.

Demo Patch 1 then addressed crashes involving turrets, the multitool and the compass. If you are on an old build, let Steam update. Early Access on November 2, 2026 will be the newest version.

Graphics Settings

A demo walkthrough of the Options menu shows resolution, window mode and an on-screen performance stats overlay. It also shows accessibility options such as a colour-blind mode and replacing spider-like enemies with blobs. Lower resolution first if your frame rate is low.

One player on lower-to-middling hardware said they could not find a picture-quality setting in the demo. That thread had no official answer. Settings may expand during Early Access.

When It Slows Down

GRAVHOUNDS is built on physics-driven chaos, with turrets, explosions and swarms growing each wave. The Steam page says the swarm grows deadlier by the second. Heavy late waves are the most demanding moments.

The developer specifically reduced Gravity Bomb's chaos for performance. If late waves stutter, lower resolution and check the performance stats overlay. Report persistent issues with your specs on the official Discord.

Accessibility and Comfort Options

The Steam page lists camera comfort, colour alternatives, custom volume controls, subtitles and play without timed input. Full controller support includes DualShock and DualSense. These options appear alongside the graphics settings.

Players have also requested FOV, camera zoom and screen shake options in the Steam discussions. The developer has not announced them yet. They may help players sensitive to motion.

Network and Multiplayer Lag

Some performance problems are network issues rather than frame rate. Multiplayer requires being online, and the Steam page lists a broadband connection in both spec tiers. Dev Log #1 addressed black-screen hangs and connection failures.

If co-op stutters while solo runs smoothly, check your connection first. Rejoining a friend's session now selects your character automatically. Report persistent disconnects on the official Discord.

Crash Fixes So Far

The developer has shipped several stability updates. Dev Log #1 added crash fixes, save reliability improvements and multiplayer fixes. Demo Patch 1 addressed crashes with turrets, the multitool and the compass.

A frozen screen in the Research Lab has also been reported without an official fix. The workaround is to stop the game from Steam and relaunch. Early Access on November 2, 2026 should include the latest fixes.

Steam Deck and Other Hardware

The developer FAQ says there is no native Steam Deck support. It can run through the Deck's compatibility layer, so expect mixed results. Linux is not listed on the Steam page.

Not everyone has trouble: one playtest reviewer said the game runs great at medium settings with basically no issues. Results vary by hardware. For launch problems, see can't start tutorial.
