GRAVHOUNDS Can't Start Tutorial? Fixes for Menu, Build Node and Launch Issues

If you can't start the GRAVHOUNDS tutorial, pick Tutorial directly from the main menu; Multiplayer now comes first and only asks whether you want the tutorial. If you are stuck inside it, extend pipeline to create a build node. If the game will not launch, check the minimum specs and install Windows and GPU driver updates.

Find the Tutorial in the Menu

Since the October 2026 demo, Multiplayer is the first option on the main menu. A demo capture shows the menu as Multiplayer, Tutorial, Options and Quit. Choose Tutorial directly.

If you click Multiplayer, the game asks whether you are sure you don't want to complete the tutorial first. Finishing it unlocks Single Player and takes you to the Host/Join screen. Solo play stays locked until you complete it.

Problems at a Glance

Match your symptom to the most likely fix.

  • Can't find it: choose Tutorial from the main menu.
  • "Position over a build node": lay pipeline first.
  • Crash on launch: Windows and GPU driver updates.
  • Stuck kit or Fabricator: update to the latest build.
  • Frozen menu: stop the game in Steam and relaunch.

Stuck on "Position over a build node"

This is the most common blocker. The tutorial asks you to place a kit on a build node, but a node only exists at the end of a pipeline segment. Players on the Steam forums said the step before felt under-explained.

Lock the Grav Beam onto the Collector's connector to lay pipeline first. The node at its end goes live, and the Fabricator goes there. Our build node guide walks through every step.

Fixed in Recent Builds

Several tutorial blockers have been patched. Dev Log #1 fixed getting stuck while building a Fabricator, Build Kits trapped under trees and objects falling through the ground. Make sure Steam has updated the game before retrying.

  • Kit details now show when you look at or hold a Build Kit (Demo Patch 1).
  • Markers no longer appear from too far away (Demo Patch 1).
  • Crashes involving turrets, the multitool and the compass addressed (Demo Patch 1).
  • Black-screen hangs and connection failures addressed (Dev Log #1).

Game Crashes or Won't Launch

Check the minimum specs first: Windows 10 64-bit, DirectX 12, a GTX 1660 or RX 590 and 8 GB RAM. In one resolved Steam thread, an immediate crash was caused by Windows locking drivers until a pending update was installed. Other players recommend updating your graphics drivers.

A separate "Can't launch the Game" thread was still unresolved at our check. If updates don't help, report it on the official Discord or Steam discussions with your specs. Our performance guide has more PC checks.

Connection and Offline Issues

The developer FAQ says single-player can be played offline, but multiplayer requires being online. One player reported the demo said it could not connect or log in while offline. That report had no official answer at our check.

If you see a connection error, check your internet connection and try again. Remember solo only unlocks after the tutorial. A save data error has also been reported on the forums without a confirmed fix.

Quick Checklist

Work through these steps in order. Most tutorial problems are solved by the first two.

  • Select Tutorial from the main menu, not Multiplayer.
  • Lay pipeline from the Collector before placing any kit.
  • Let Steam update the game to the latest build.
  • Install pending Windows updates and the latest GPU driver.
  • Check you meet the minimum specs, including DirectX 12.
  • If a menu freezes, Alt+Tab, stop the game in Steam and relaunch.

Playing Multiplayer Without the Tutorial

If the tutorial truly will not run, you can still play. Since the demo, multiplayer does not require the tutorial, so friends can show you the ropes. The developer added this so new players could learn together.

Be ready for the build node step, which trips up most new players. Read our build node guide first. Single-player stays locked until you finish the tutorial.

Reporting a Bug

If nothing works, report the problem to the developer. The official Discord is where the team asks for bug reports, and the Steam discussions are also monitored by players. Include your specs and what happened.

The developer has fixed many tutorial blockers between the playtest and the demo. More fixes are likely before and during Early Access. Keep the game updated.

Frozen Screen in a Menu

One player reported their screen and controls froze in the Research Lab while upgrading Mods. Their only workaround was to Alt+Tab and press Stop in Steam, then relaunch. No official fix has been posted for it yet.

Dev Log #1 lists save reliability improvements and additional crash fixes. Keep the game updated, as Early Access starts November 2, 2026. Start fresh with our tutorial walkthrough.
