GRAVHOUNDS Biomass: Where to Find It and What It's Used For

Biomass is an organic resource you harvest from biomass growths on GRAVHOUNDS planets. It has two confirmed uses: Mod upgrades cost Biomass alongside Research Points, and a growth heals you 10 HP when fully harvested. Planet cards show which jobs reward Biomass, so pick those when you are saving for Mod upgrades.

What Biomass Is

Biomass comes from biomass growths, organic deposits found around planets. In demo footage, COSMO announces them with lines like "I'm authorizing a biomass growth". Players then harvest them like other resources.

The developer has not published how much Biomass each growth gives. One creator admitted they did not know how much they needed to harvest. We will add yields if official numbers appear.

Biomass at a Glance

The confirmed facts about Biomass.

  • Source: biomass growths on planets.
  • Use 1: Mod upgrades, with Research Points.
  • Use 2: heals 10 HP when a growth is fully harvested.
  • Finding it: planet cards and COSMO call-outs.
  • Yield per growth: not published.

Use 1: Mod Upgrades

Dev Log #1 adjusted the Mod tree order and upgrade prices for the demo. It also states that Mod upgrades now require Biomass alongside Research Points. Without Biomass, you cannot push your Mods past their base level.

Mod upgrades show levels 1 to 3 in the current build. Pair this with your Mod Deck so you upgrade Mods you will actually draw. Our Research Points guide covers the other half of the cost.

Use 2: Healing

The dev log adds a second use: Biomass now heals 10 HP when fully harvested. That makes growths a useful top-up during or between waves. Finish the harvest to get the heal.

This is one of few healing sources described officially, alongside abilities like Finn's Play Dead. Use growths near your base when the swarm wears you down. Keep an eye on incoming waves while you harvest.

Finding Biomass

The Steam page says treacherous planets hold the best materials, and the higher the risk, the greater the rewards. Demo footage shows planet cards listing a Biomass challenge alongside other details. Choose those jobs when you need it.

Once planetside, growths can appear around the map, and COSMO calls them out. One creator found several growths on a fuel pump job. Use drone view to check for enemies before heading out to harvest.

Collecting It Efficiently

Harvest with your mining laser, then return the resource to the Collector. The tutorial shows the general rule: resources dropped on the pipeline travel back on their own. Extending pipeline toward growth clusters saves trips.

In co-op, one player can harvest while others defend. One creator said this kind of job is where a group really helps. See our pipeline guide for routing.

Planning Biomass Runs

Because Mod upgrades need Biomass and Research Points, a short run focused on growths can unlock your next upgrade. Check planet cards for a Biomass listing before launching. Riskier planets tend to hold better materials.

Remember the main objective still decides whether you succeed. Harvest growths between waves rather than during a push. Return to the Collector before launch prep ends.

Biomass and Healing in Combat

The 10 HP heal from a fully harvested growth is small but useful. It helps characters with low HP, like Finn, stay in the fight. Combine it with your character's own survival tools.

Finn's Play Dead provides invulnerability and stronger healing while down. Revives from teammates give a second chance in co-op. Biomass growths add one more option when the swarm closes in.

What We Still Don't Know

The developer has not published Biomass yields per growth or exact Mod upgrade costs. Mod levels show as 1 to 3 without numbers in the demo. We will not guess these values.

Early Access on November 2, 2026 may change prices again, as the dev log already adjusted upgrade prices once. We will update this page with verified numbers. Check back after launch.

Biomass and Other Resources

Biomass is one of several materials. Electrium crystals and titanium ore unlock items such as the sniper rifle, while credits from mining pay for build kits. Each has its own role in progression.

Read our Electrium guide for the volatile crystal resource. Demo progress, including stored resources, will not carry over to Early Access. Plan your Mod upgrades again from scratch at launch.
