The Short Answer by Platform
Sources disagree, so we list what each one says rather than guess. Here is the state of local co-op as of October 30, 2026.
- Steam (PC): Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op and Online Co-op; no Shared/Split Screen tag.
- Xbox store: Online co-op (2–4) and Shared/split screen listed.
- Developer FAQ: multiplayer requires being online; split-screen not addressed.
- Co-Optimus (PC): Local Co-Op not supported.
Co-op at a Glance
What each source says about playing together.
- Online co-op: 1–4 players, confirmed.
- Split-screen on Steam: not listed.
- Split-screen on Xbox: listed on the store, unconfirmed.
- Crossplay: Xbox Series X|S with Xbox on PC only.
- Solo: offline after the tutorial.
What Steam and the Developer Say
The official Steam page lists Single-player, Multi-player, Co-op and Online Co-op, plus full controller support. It does not list Shared/Split Screen or Remote Play Together. Its description calls the game a 1–4 player co-op action builder.
The developer FAQ says single-player can be played offline, while multiplayer requires being online. It does not mention split-screen. On PC, plan on each player using their own copy and screen.
The Xbox Store Listing
The Microsoft Store page for GRAVHOUNDS (Game Preview) lists Shared/split screen among its features. It also lists Online co-op (2–4), Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and Xbox Play Anywhere. This is the only source we found that mentions split-screen.
No developer post, trailer or hands-on video we reviewed shows split-screen play. All co-op footage in the most-viewed demo videos is online, one screen per player. We will confirm once the Game Preview launches on November 2, 2026.
How Online Co-op Works
GRAVHOUNDS supports one to four players. Since the demo, Multiplayer is the first main-menu option, and you can host or join without finishing the tutorial. If you disconnect and rejoin a friend's session, the game automatically selects your character.
Dev Log #1 lists fixes for black-screen hangs, rejoining problems and connection failures. Players note that enemy numbers scale up with more players. Previewers found co-op the most fun way to play.
Crossplay
The developer FAQ says Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC can play together. There is no Steam-to-Xbox crossplay for now. Steam players and Xbox players cannot join each other at launch.
Xbox Play Anywhere and cloud saves are listed on the Xbox store. Online multiplayer on Xbox consoles requires a Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription. That is standard Xbox policy rather than a GRAVHOUNDS rule.
Co-op Tips
Previewers agree GRAVHOUNDS is at its best with a group. Split roles so one player mines, one defends and one repairs. The developer's overview shows heavy objectives that need the whole crew to carry.
Downed players get a second chance if teammates revive them. Coordinate launch timing, because one player controls the countdown. Everyone must be aboard before take-off.
Multiplayer Fixes
Dev Log #1 lists several multiplayer improvements in the demo. Black-screen hangs, rejoining problems and connection failures were addressed, with clearer messages when you disconnect. Hazard Pay now pays every player, not only the host.
Demo Patch 1 fixed turrets endlessly smoking when joining a session in progress. Players also asked for easier rejoining after network errors. The developer says rejoining now auto-selects your character.
Difficulty With More Players
Enemy numbers increase with the number of players. One forum thread title sums up one experience: two players much harder than solo. Others find some missions easy and others very hard.
Players have asked for player-count scaling options. The developer has not announced changes yet. Build more turrets when playing with a bigger group.
Playing Solo Instead
If you have no online group, GRAVHOUNDS is fully playable solo with a more methodical pace. Single-player unlocks after the tutorial and works offline. Saves are shared between solo and multiplayer on the same device.
Some jobs are slower alone, so pick a character that suits solo play. See our best character guide. The story mode guide explains the solo campaign.
